Hub of Busan, City of Happiness
Busanjin-gu was included in Geochilsan state during Three Hans Period, Dongppyeong-hyeon, Dongrae-gun during Silla period, Yangju Dongpyeong-hyeon during Goryeo period and Dongpyeong-myeon and Seo-myeon of Dongrae-bu during Joseon period. The name ‘Busanjin-gu’ was originated from the Busanjinseong Fortress, which was considered as the gateway of port of Busan during the Japanese invasion in 1592. Busanjin-gu was named Busanjin in 1936 and named as its current name came into use when the -gu system was implemented in 1957.
